Rufete is an indigenous Portuguese red grape variety, grown mainly in the Beira Interior region, though also found in parts of the Douro Superior and across the border in Spain’s Salamanca region. Though less known to the general public, it plays an important role in the winemaking tradition of Portugal’s interior. With medium-sized clusters and small berries, Rufete is an early-ripening and productive variety, but sensitive to vine diseases and requiring careful vineyard management.
