Manhattan

Ingredients

  • 40ml Rye Whiskey or Bourbon
  • 20ml Sweet Vermouth (Rosso)
  • 5-10 drops Angostura Bitters
  • Ice cubes

Method

Place the ice in a mixing glass and add the whiskey, vermouth and the Angostura bitters. Gently stir with a spoon (preferably a muddling spoon). Serve in a glass with or without ice (to taste). Garnish with a cherry or with a simple twist of orange peel.

 

Tips:

For a Dry Manhattan swap the sweet vermouth for dry vermouth.

And for a Perfect Manhattan replace half the sweet vermouth with dry vermouth.

Depending on the alcoholic content of the Rye Whiskey/Bourbon and on the texture and richness of the vermouth, you may need to reduce the amount of vermouth. Experiment and adjust the blend to your palate, but try not to get too far away from the 2:1 whiskey – vermouth proportion.
